A Guided Program for Identity Voice and Self-Expression for Girls 8 —10

What Is My Book of Me?

My Book of Me is an evidence-based, structured program for girls ages 8 to 10, a critical developmental window for identity formation, self-expression, and emotional awareness.

Through guided reflection, creative exercises, and facilitated discussion, girls build a stronger sense of self that doesn’t depend on external validation.

Grounded in positive psychology and developmental research, the program addresses a gap in traditional social-emotional learning models by focusing not only on emotional regulation but on how girls define themselves, relate to their bodies, and express their thoughts and needs.

Its structure is intentionally aligned with the specific developmental shifts girls experience during this stage.

Why This Matters

By age 8, girls’ sense of self is beginning to change in noticeable ways, both in the classroom and in relationships.

Girls become more hesitant to speak up, share ideas, or try things they’re unsure of.

Participation becomes more cautious or inconsistent.

Sensitivity to peer perception and feedback increases.

Girls may start prioritizing fitting in over expressing what they really think or feel.

Signs of body awareness emerge, including comparison, body image concern, and emerging beliefs about appearance tied to self-worth.

How girls come to see themselves now can shape how they participate, relate to others, and use their voice well into adolescence and adulthood.

In Our Time Together

Girls will develop a clearer sense of who they are beyond appearance or peer comparison, build confidence in expressing their thoughts, needs, and boundaries, and learn practical strategies for navigating discomfort, uncertainty, and social pressure.

They’ll develop greater awareness of their emotions and internal cues, identify their strengths and internal sources of worth, and build a more grounded relationship with their bodies.

Each girl will also create a personal “Book of Me,” a tangible reflection of who she is, what matters to her, and how she moves through the world that she can return to over time.

How It Works

Each session builds on the last, guiding girls through:

  • understanding who they are beyond appearance

  • developing a more grounded relationship with their bodies

  • recognizing and responding to their emotions

  • identifying strengths and values

  • expressing their thoughts, needs, and boundaries

  • applying these skills in everyday situations

Growing together

Caregivers are an important part of My Book of Me. Each caregiver receives a companion guide with ideas for reinforcing key concepts at home, opening up meaningful conversations, and staying connected to what their child is learning and experiencing throughout the program. The goal is for girls not only to better understand themselves, but to feel more deeply understood and supported by the adults in their lives.

My Book of Me is available as both a small-group or one-on-one experience.
